An autumn afternoon
when as the sun goes down on Archers Rd the crowd makes their way
home, no doubt discussing the game. I grew up in Archers Rd, my
parents having bought a house there in 1959, so I knew The Dell
well. Every summer I spent playing football in the car park while
waiting for the players to come back from training and sign my scrapbook.
The Dell was such a part of my family’s way of life with social
events planned around matches and my poor Mum having to make countless
cups of tea for all the men folk when they returned from the match.
